Guide: How to put/import/rip/convert DVD to Premier?

 

There are many problems would arise when importing and editing DVD to Adobe Premiere Pro, I just listed some of them here below, just check them out, if you happen to fall into one of their situation, then just read patiently, you will find an answer at the end.

 
Get/Import/rip from DVD into Adobe Premier Pro

a. I have a camcorder that writes straight to DVD, I have copied all the files to my desktop but find it very difficult using Adobe Premier Pro to import; The files extensions are .IFO + .VOB, it just can’t even open anything that I have recorded.

b. I’ve tried renaming .vob to mpeg. But Adobe Premiere Pro doesn’t seem to play the whole thing, or there is no sound. I have tried using a ripper and although it plays fine on Mac it doesn’t play the picture in premiere.

c. I have tried to convert the VOB files from the DVD to mpeg and wmv, and tried to import them into Premiere, but every time i try to do so, the program freezes and crashes.

a. I have film reels on a DVD and want to remove a portion from the beginning. I know how to rip the DVD to ifo/vob/bup file but not sure what the best way is to create a file that I can then import/edit in Adobe Premiere Pro.

Supported video format by Adobe Premiere Pro

A. Tapeless format
File-based camcorders from various manufacturers’ record video and audio into files of specific formats organized within specific directory structures. These formats include Panasonic P2 camcorders, Sony XDCAM HD and XDCAM EX camcorders, Sony CF-based HDV camcorders, and AVCHD camcorders.
Camcorders recording in any of these formats typically record to hard disks, optical media, or flash memory media, not to videotape. These camcorders and formats are therefore referred to as file-based, or tapeless, rather than tape-based.
The video and audio from a file-based camcorder are already contained in digital files. No capture or digitizing step is necessary to bring them into Adobe Premiere Pro.

B. DV AVI and HDV
As always with Adobe Premiere Pro, content in other formats (DV, HDV) can also be imported and used in the timeline freely.

Convert DVD to DV AVI to Adobe Premier Pro
Whatever DVD you get, encrypted commercial DVD or home video DVD, to copy the files off the DVD and trying to import them to Adobe Premiere Pro isn’t really the way to do this. It can be done, but involves jumping through a few hoops.

The .ifo file usually contains all the DVD info, the DVD structure, title, text, subtitle, video and audio files, while .vob mainly contains video info, and that’s what we usually need to focus on. However, the fact is that vobs can’t be directly imported into APP.

The trick is to rip the video files out of the DVDs, transcode them to a format that Adobe Premier Pro does support then import. You best bet is to use DVD to Adobe Premiere Converter to rip DVD and convert video to DV AVI format, which can be easily recognized by APP.
